2013 New Orleans Jazz Fest tickets go on sale Dec. 1

By on November 30, 2012

Tickets for the 2013 New Orleans Jazz Fest go on sale Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m. Early-bird single-day tickets are $45 plus service charges, the same price as for this year’s festival. Some time in January — the exact date has not been announced — the advance price increases to $50. Tickets will be $65 at the gate, also the same price as 2012.

Purchasing tickets now requires a leap of faith. The roster for the 2013 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival presented by Shell, which is April 26-28 and May 2-5 at the Fair Grounds Race Course, won’t be announced until mid-January. However, jazz saxophone legend Wayne Shorter’s reps let slip that he’ll be at the Fair Grounds on May 5.

Single-day tickets are weekend specific. Tickets will be available at nojazzfest.com and ticketmaster.com, at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling 800.745.3000. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Jazz Fest ticket office located at the New Orleans Arena Box Office. All general admission Jazz Fest tickets are subject to additional service fees and handling charges, which are generally the lowest when paying with cash in person at the arena box office.

In addition to single-day tickets, Jazz Fest’s various VIP ticket packages also go on sale Dec. 1.

The Big Chief VIP Experience includes numerous amenities, including daily admission with re-entry privileges, access to covered viewing stands with seating at the Acura and Gentilly stages, and a private hospitality lounge. Big Chief passes are $1,125 for the three days of the first weekend, $1,275 for the four days of the second weekend.

The Grand Marshal VIP pass allows access to upfront, reserved, standing-room-only viewing areas at the festival’s big three stages — Acura, Gentilly and Congo Square — and in-out privileges. Grand Marshal passes are $750 first weekend, $850 second weekend.

The Krewe of Jazz Fest pass grants access to a covered viewing area with folding seats at the Acura Stage only, and allows for re-entry privileges. Krewe of Jazz Fest passes are $550 first weekend, $600 for the second weekend.

VIP ticket prices include all service charges and fee except for a $25 delivery fee. VIP tickets are available in limited numbers, as are parking passes for the VIP tickets, which are available at an additional cost.

Also, tickets are available for the 15th annual Jazz & Heritage Foundation Gala, April 25, 2013 at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside Hotel. The gala, sponsored by the non-profit foundation that owns the Jazz Fest, supports the Don Jamison Heritage School of Music, a free music instruction program that teaches 85 students each week. This year’s gala theme is “Glass House Reunion,” a salute to the South Saratoga Street nightclub that hosted the likes of Kermit Ruffins, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and the Rebirth Brass Band, all of whom will perform at the gala.

Gala tickets are $500 and include passes to all seven days of Jazz Fest. Go to jazzandheritage.org or call 504.558.6100 for gala tickets.
