A celebration of original music and Proudly South African Renaissance Songs….
As a full-time student at Berklee College of Music, Apiwe Bubu served as the president of the African club at Berklee 2012/2013. He is a strong proponent of a distinctly South African sound and South Africa’s culture, believing that it is within this indigenous sound his musical purpose and contributions lay. Upon completing his studies he worked as a music producer and assistant engineer to the renowned mix engineer Tony Maserati(Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Robin Thicke) under his umbrella production/studio company Mirrorball Entertainment in which he made contributions to Grammy winning/nominated albums such as Beyonce’s Lemonade. Keith Urban’s Ripcord and Gallant’s Ology.
As he touched down in New Orleans for the first time he was in “amazement” as he describes the intensity of the musical culture and heritage of the city. “Every corner I turned, there was music , and brilliant musicians playing it”. Prepping and here to showcase his own music, the songwriter was motivated and inspired to equally showcase and perform his distinctly South African influenced songs and sound along his twin sisters, Pilani Bubu and Ezile Bubu, who’d equally prepared and even flown out from South for this meeting of the worlds in New Orleans. Needless to say, the Creole Queen’s musical explosion was a great success as the trio including South African drumming prodigy Danny/Daniel Petersen and their New Orleans assembled band created quite a stir and excitement on board the ship as it sailed the Mississippi leaving audiences and patriots in a musical confluence after an unequivocally vibrant, diverse, continentally strident and merging performance of their Originals and New Orleans favorites.
