NAYO JONES BRINGS DOWN THE HOUSE AT THIS YEARS JAZZ & HERITAGE FESTIVAL AS A FEATURE WITH NEW ORLEANS OWN KERMIT RUFFINS

Before the gates of the Fair Grounds opened on the 2015 New Orleans Jazz Fest, a picture of the empty Congo Square was tweeted out with the question, “What if they gave a Jazz Fest, and nobody came?” On Saturday May 2nd, a day at the New Orleans Heritage Jazz Fest headlined by Kermit Ruffins, featuring Ms. Nayo Jones, the opposite was true: They gave a Jazz Fest, and EVERYBODY came!!!!
Saturday certainly felt like one of the biggest days in recent NOLA HeritagenJazz Fest history. Whatever the capacity of the Congo Square – 10,000? 20,000? – it was at maximum capacity for Kermit Ruffins. No surprise, the weather was sunny, plus it was on a Saturday, plus a performance by a legendary artist, Not to mention his vast catalog of songs, that most people can sing along with, knowing them by hard, equals an enormous turnout every time.
Two hours before Kermit arrived on stage, the dirt track at the back of the Congo Square was already filled to the outer fence — and people still were streaming into the Fair Grounds by the hundreds. The big surprise was when Kermit called to the stage Ms Nayo Jones. This young lady brought the house down, the crowd gave her a standing ovation. Although she considers herself a baby in the music business, she commanded the Congo Square stage this past May 2nd as she had in the past. Her’s is a talent to be reckoned with; you will be hearing a lot more from this, able to stand her own young new artist. You can see her every Friday at the Little Gem Saloon in downtown New Orleans.
